Trip to Porto in December 2017 was Awesome
I had a wonderful trip back to Porto in December 2017! I stayed with my good friend, Pastor Carvalho, and his family in Teresina before and after the visit to Porto. They are always such generous and gracious hosts! Furthermore, Pastor Carvalho, along with his wife and daughter, drove me to from Teresina to Porto! On the weekend that I arrived back in Teresina from Porto, they were having a 30 year anniversary celebration at their church. Pastor Carvalho asked me to play and sing a song for the church, that I had written and translated into Portuguese. They seemed to be blessed by it. After the service, they had a huge dinner feast up on the roof!
Once in Porto, I connected with the new pastor of the Assembly of God church there, Orlando Bonfim. On Saturday, I went with the AG youth to the countryside to do door-to-door missions with them! My Portuguese is getting better, and they wanted me to share in Portuguese. They said they could understand me, so OK! At one point we walked by a youth soccer game, and I preached salvation to everyone there! Both teams gathered around and listened intently while I shared. To close, I shared John 3:16 and asked, “Quem aqui quer viver para sempre?!” (Who here wants to live forever?), and almost every hand shot up eagerly! During the door-to-door witnessing, at least one person that I know about received salvation as well!
That night, they asked me to preach at their church! I preached about the Father’s love, as best I could in Portuguese, emphasizing the greatest two commandments (Matthew 22:36-40). The pastor, and I think almost all of the young people, have since friended me on Facebook!
That week in Porto, the Catholic church was having the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. It is a huge festival celebration in the town, with a carnival, many booths, rides for the kids, and partying in the streets! I prayed for a lot of people at the festival!
When I was ready to leave Porto, the Lord’s provision was especially evident. I had planned on going to the bank to get more Brazilian cash from the ATM to pay my hotel bill, but it was closed! Then I remembered that I had stashed away a few American dollars in my suitcase just in case of emergency. It was the exact amount I needed to pay the rest of my hotel bill!
Terry Going Back To Porto December 2017
The Lord has made a way, when there seems to be no way! My wife, Shari, has been bedridden with MS all year, and is not able to travel. Furthermore, I am her primary caregiver, so I also could not travel. However, the Lord has provided a dear sister in the Lord, a professional caregiver, who is willing to sacrifice her time and stay with Shari when I go back to Porto in December. I will be landing in Teresina Dec. 5 and getting home on Dec. 13. I am super excited about this trip. So far the trip goals are just maintain connections and go and love on (and pray for) people, and see what God will do. I believe miracles will happen on this trip!
Terry Back from Porto 2013
August, 2013. Terry is back from Porto! The Lord’s leading was evident from the beginning to the end. Silvano and Erika Falcao greeted Terry at the airport in Teresina with warm smiles, and drove him to the home of Pastor Carvalho, who opened up his home for Terry to stay the whole time he was in Teresina! During the trip Terry was able to reconnect with all of the people he was hoping to find, and the Lord arranged many divine appointments. Many people wept openly when I handed them a framed photo of their loved one from 1985. In multiple instances, their loved one had passed away, and they had NO photo to remember them by!
Terry Going Back to Porto, Piaui, Brazil July 30 – August 10, 2013
Finally, after 28 years, Terry is going back to Porto. God has opened the doors in an amazing way by providing the money for airfare and a contact person in Brazil! While at the Free Methodist Reframe Conference in June of 2013, Terry met a Brazilian pastor and his wife, Myller and Gyselle Olivio. Gyselle told Terry that her parents were originally from Piaui and that she has a cousin, Silvano, who teaches at a University in Florida who is home in Teresina over the summer. She told him that if he wanted to go to Brazil, that he should contact her cousin, and that she was sure he would help. She gave him her cousin’s contact information.
Terry called Silvano in Brazil, and Silvano graciously offered for Terry to stay with him. In addition, Silvano said he would contact his pastor and try to arrange a car for Terry to use while he is there. Silvano is also willing to go with Terry up to Porto! Praise God for his amazing provision and open doors!
The purpose of this trip is to try to reestablish connections with families in Porto. He also hopes to be able to find some of Pastor Oliveira’s family still in Porto who can help us get in contact with him again. Terry would also love to reconnect with Padua and his family.
Terry has many photos of the people of Porto that were taken during the 1985 trip. He is making large copies of many of them in order to give them to the people in the photos and/or their families. He hopes this will be a blessing to many in Porto who may otherwise not have any photos of themselves and/or their families from 28 years ago!
Terry finished GSSM
Terry finished one year of intense training at the Global School of Supernatural Ministry in the Spring of 2011. It was an amazing year that challenged and transformed him in ways beyond his imagining.
